Human edited directories take a different approach. The reviewing and rating of sites is done by people and therefore guarantees that sites are placed in the correct category.

This process obviously takes much longer than the automated procedure undertaken by search engines and for this reason even Yahoo, the biggest human edited directory service, has only indexed around 2 million of the 1 billion web pages now online.

It is also extremely difficult to get sites onto human edited directories due to the huge volume of sites waiting to be indexed.
