Search
engines employ a piece of software to carry out
the indexing of web-sites. These so-called ‘spiders’
travel from page to page storing information about each
one as they go. This information is then returned to
the search engines’ central database and the page address
along with a title and description is
stored in the appropriate category.
Thereafter,
if someone searches for that particular subject, the
page will be returned along with potentially thousands
of others in that category. Where the page appears
on this list depends on several factors described below.
The
position on the list is extremely important as the
higher up the list your site is, the more likely someone
is to visit it.
